small deviation to Pennavecchia with its interesting remains of mosaic flooring.A
funeral monument, fragments of tombstones and two stele have been uncovered
at Salzare, along the Amerina road, and are now preserved in the Town Hall.
Going back to the main road in the direction of Amelia, one must stop at
Lugnano
in Teverina, to visit Poggio Gramignano, a typical Imperial country villa,
the reamins of which are preserved in the Antiquarium, and the Collegiata of
Santa Maria Assunta, one of the most important Roman of Umbria. Continuing in
the direction of
Guardea after a short stop
at Alviano to admire the XVI c. Castle, one reaches Guardea Antica where the
ruins of the Guardege Castle, one of the most ancient and powerful of the Valtiberina,
dominates the village from the hilltop,in one of the most panoramic spots of
the Amerina, the ancient country villa Cocciano and the Poggio Castle behind
Guardea are well-worth a visit.
Starting
from Carsulae, ancient Roman province of particular archeological interest a
visitable amphitheatre, the funeral buildings and the visible structure of the
town with the ancient Flaminia road running through it. We continue our way
passing through medieval villages of Casteltodino (St.Bartholomew Church XIII
c.) and Quadrelli (St. Maria Assunta Church XII c.) built in strategic positions
along the Ulpiana road that linked Todi to San Gemini, connecting southern Umbria
to Etruria. Visiting the different feasts and festivals in these and the surrounding
village, is an attractive passtime in the summer as the gastronomic and artisan

we can stop in this small town rich in history and cultural heritage, one must
visit the polygonal walls, the Roman cistern which is a rare example of hydraulic
art from the II c. A.D., the Roman Gate na dlarge parts of the Roman paving
